Hopeless Situation

A.....
body outlined in chalk with blood still fresh on the ground
crime scene covered in yellow tape
father's grief
mother's tears
n entire family's flood of tears
life cut short leaving behind a void of pain.

The never ending cycle of violence
leaving behind.....
women to teach their boys how to become men
little girls never to know the joy of a father-daughter relationship
sisters without a protector and brothers without a friend
mothers to always wonder what their child COULD have been
leaving an entire family to know that a loved one is gone.

What has happened to my generation that they believe all solutions
lie within guns and death?
What has happened to my generation where the fast life of drugs is
preferred to a college education?
The same ones that they stand on the corners slanging with
are the first ones to pull a gun out and snuff their lives.

The schools say blame the family,
the family say to blame the police
and the police in turn blame the community
well me.....I blame everybody.
It's true when they say that the house is the foundation
that it all begins at home
so when the home is in shambles, the child can't learn what's right.
School is a "supposed" place of learning and nourishment
but when you have educators that only care about paychecks
sadly....its easy for students that are crying for help to fall through the cracks.
They could rely on people from their community to give them a lending hand
but when they're in a place of death, welfare and despair
HONESTLY how much hope do we expect them to have?
So with three of the four failing them, the only course left to them is one
that constantly has them butting heads with those of the law.

I don't begin to have the answers to how we  can begin to fix
what has gone so horribly wrong but maybe we need to just
start anew.
................................
2 parent homes,
better education system
affordable and quality housing
more community and neighborhood togetherness.
which would lead to less confrontations with the law.
*shrugs*
maybe I'm wrong though and none of my suggestions are solutions
maybe its too late to repair the damage that has been done to my generation
and if that's the case...the tears that some have shed are sure to become more.

Diamonds and Dimes

Dimes and Diamonds
The Dime walks by shining real nice
spinning 5 times, looking kinda tight
but he spent her last week
so she's another mans today
sitting up crunching on a bag of Frito-Lays .
The Diamond is priceless
and more than just a jewel
she's admired by all
the old, the young, and the cruel
she's slim in the waist and fat in tha back
she gets the man's attention before she can even say snap.
The Dime is indulged
she wonders what she does not have.
the Diamond has something that she surely does lack
is it the knowledge on her shoulders
and the beauty of her looks?
is it the way she smiles
that gets tha boys hook?
The Diamond is intrigued
she knows she is top of line
she knows any guy she can win over will treat her far better than a dime
so she wonders what she has that the dime lacks
is it the clothes she doesn't wear
has to be matter of fact
the Dime isn't good enough
the Diamond already knows
the Dime is spent
while she is held on to with divulge
The Dime is sad
she wants to be the best
but how can she compete with someone who sleeps but never gets rest
the Diamond is steadily at rest
she barely has time for play
the Dime wishes she could stop working at burger joints and speedway
she sick of laying on her back
moaning and making sounds
she's tired of getting paid by these men
just so she can lay down
The Diamond has the money to splurge
she went to college and earned her degree
she's sporting the latest Jay's
and the fashion's best of Nike's
she carries herself well
she moves before her feel
she wipes the dust off her shoulders
and stay on shopping sprees
The reality is that
any woman can be a diamond
one that will never get old
never fade
and never be looked over
A Diamond shines and is always precise
always knows what she wants in life
a Dime is basically something a woman should not want to be
though they shine at the making
it's something that will fade after years of use and rough handling
while a dime can be traded, used, and bargained for
the Diamond will still have the legacy and last forever.

"Ode To Too"

An ode to you, my darling toonie too
so you may know that you have a father whose love for you is true
I've missed you so much, throughout the years
no birthdays to share, no christmas cheer.
it's the simple things that matter
to see your face all aglow with laughter
adorned by natures' jewelries,
truth, happiness, and a radiant inner-beauty!

-R.J.F. (Ricky James Francis)
**My daddy**

--thank you for that daddy because you'll never be able to understand how much that poem means to me. For so long, I wanted you around and you weren't and I felt neglected. When we found each other again, I realized that you're love for me never waivered, instead it continued to grow and grow stronger over the years. I know I always said it to you and you may not have believed it everytime I did but...I love you daddy, with everything in my heart, I love you.

RIP Daddy *blows kiss up to heaven*

The Perfect Man

The perfect man is a myth
A sham
Lies
Concoted by....well guys
There is no general ideal man
I think you will agree this much is true
But there is one good man out there
molded only for you.
He will sex you till your spine gets chills
and orgasms wrack your body and steal your will
to maintain those walls you've erected to deal
with all the lies and bullshit you've had to endure
This man will cure
this incurable bitterness that has drowned your soul
by boys that have pillaged your treasures untold
but before and after the physical, he will satiate your mental
and after that's done, he will repeat the essentials
give you a shot of heaven, chased with a bit of help
crawl inside your mind and body while you delve
into a secret place you thought was over and done
because at that exact moment, two became one
not just bodies but every fiber of your being
felt what he felt and saw what he was seeing
he will not hesitate to be everything you need
Be it
grease your scalp
run your bath
or rub your feet.
He'll manifest your thoughts before you've had time to think
solve your problems before you can even speak
know your body inside and out without having to seek
when a good man meets a good woman
they were destined to meet.
The man mentioned will come when it's time
but first you must position yourself in lone
with physical, mental and spiritual prosperity.
See
you have to be complete
in the
very ways you want this man to be
pride astride
open wide
tears dried
no ties
you have to be happy independently
don't include another person in your misery
no frantic searches because
a wedding ring is missing
and your clock has been tickin'
or it's been 3 months since you had some good dick or
licking for that matter
..............................................................................
damn i lost my train of verse
so let me slow down in reverse
give you the abridged version
wither terse-
ness
hit
just
than
more
to do
meant
was
that
a man
find
to
hunting
before
time
yourself
give
There is a man who was specifically designed
with only you in mind
he knows what to do....
He's just waiting on you.

My Spirituality

My spirit...
light as a feather...
my problems and my issues...
come and go like bad weather...
just as predictable
as the coming of the night...
the ups and downs...
yet I still continue to fight...
Y'all can't hold me...
Y'all can't phase me now...

can't perceieve how I don't get caught up...
y'all just sitting there like...wow...
I'm on a whole 'nother planet
where only a chosen few can see...
Do you honestly think that
you can match the shear strength of my spirituality?
Can you stare into my eyes

and tell me what's in MY soul?
Yeah, you can't because I'm not yours

I'm only under God's control
so remember my words
when you are caught under a rock
nothing is ever to hard
nothing is ever to difficult to just be stopped.
So always try and remember MY plea:
Child of God

hold onto your faith and spirituality.

Annihilation Of Our Men?

Once again my wonderful city of New Orleans has taken the title of being the 'Murder Capital.' This is not a title that I nor anyone in this city should take joy or pride in...in fact we all should feel shamed that we have left the crime in this city reach the heights that it has. It has gotten so bad that the number of people killed in a week down here range between 8 to 12 and they are mostly african american males between the ages of 16 and 27....that's the annihilation of an entire generation right there!!

In 2007 we had 210 killings per people and in 2008, we had 68 killings per 100,000 people in the city. As of July of this year, there were a reported number of 97 murders. 97!! These young men are killing each other for no other reason than that they can. It has gotten to the point where I only pick up the newspaper down here for the living section because looking anything else will surely break your heart. The reasons that come out of their mouths that they feel validates the taking of another life: "he disrespected me", "he was fucking around with my girl" "he not from my hood". This has always been an issue for me: New Orleans is broken into neighborhoods or wards as they're called down here and the fighting that goes on between the different wards...it's crazy, no other word can describe it.I love my city and when things are going good I love everything about my city. I take pride in saying that I'm from New Orleans...the New Orleans that's based on our food, our culture, partying, our history, I take pride in THAT part but this? I shake my head at my brothers acting like animals in cages that do not have the capability of thinking rationally and making something of themselves.I blame it on the parents who have this children before they are ready for them and then leave them to raise themselves without any good role models, I blame the school system in this city that before and after Katrina have been filled with school teachers and adminstrators that gave no second thought to the students but were just concerned about their paycheck and I blame the prejudiced police officers in this city who judge some of these young men and accuse or badger them until they snap. I'm not taking the blame away from the ones that are committing these crimes because the heaviest blame lays on their shoulders. At the end of the day, THEY are responsible about the choices they make, the type of people they associate with, the lifestyle they lead and what they choose to do with their lives. I am saying that the environment in which they are raised can have an effect on them...maybe it's time to change the environment and help this generation before it's completely annihilated.

Let's learn from the murder of Derrion Albert, Ashley "AJ" Jewell and Kevin Miller. Or...I fear that the phrase I hear out of black women's mouths all the time "There's no good black men around" may one day become a reality all of us have to face.
