Disney At It's Finest...

and when I say at it's finest, I mean that literally lol.

I think all girls were in love with at least 1 or 2 different Disney characters when we were younger because I know I was-->Simba (don't judge me lol) and Hercules (did you SEE those muscles and smile?!)<--. Well I was browsing over at Taste Of A Poison Paradise and came across these wonderful pictures that make you think of Disney in a different light.

everyone's favorite frog: Prince Naveen

Our wonderful prince on a flying carpet: Aladdin

the other man who wanted Pocahontas' heart: Kocoum
and last but not least: the Greek God Hercules.

You can see the whole gallery over at David Kawena!!

Prayers For Haiti

I....honestly don't have any words. To help with the recovery of Haiti, you can either make a donation to Yele Haiti or text 'Haiti' to 90999 to donate $10.

R.I.P. Teddy Pendergrass

My prayers and condolences are sent out to the family and friends of Teddy Pendergrass in their time of grievance.

He died January 13, 2009, at the age of 59, after a fight with cancer.

RIP Brittany Murphy

I send my condolences & prayers to the family of actress Brittany Murphy.

The 32-year old was found dead in the bathroom this morning by her mother. She was rushed to Cedars-Senai Medical Center where they attempted to revive her but sadly, she was pronounced dead at 10:04 am.

She starred in movies such as "8 mile", "Don't Say A Word" and her most popular role as Tai in "Clueless".

Here's a clip from Clueless that we all most likely remember:

Sad State of Affairs

This is gonna be really quick because honestly I feel close to tears right now.
I was on youtube and came across this video that someone made of a # of murders that have happened in New Orleans in 2009.
This is NOWHERE near the whole # of people that unfortunately had their lives taken this year but...even these on the video are too many.

All I can say is that we all have to do better. As a community, a city, a family and for ourselves.
THIS is not the type of city that our children should have to grow up in.

It's Such A Scandal Everywhere We Go!

Is it just me or....was this just the year for celebrities to lose their God given common sense and go COMPLETELY crazy?!! I mean I know we all expect some scandals to happen but this time...*smdh* I bet even some celebs think 2009 had too much going on. Here's just a list of a few that come to mind very easily:

1) Chris Brown and Rihanna----yeahhh *sigh* 'nough said bout that right? We've all talked that subject into the ground.

2)Kanye West and his interruption of Taylor Swift at the VMA's---not a big fan of Kanye's but I understand why he did it which leads to #3.

3) "You Lie!"---now if I really have to explain that to you guys, then we have a serious problem. How can you scream that to the President and not have everyone know about it?

4)Nas & Kelis--it wasn't them actually getting a divorce...it was the amount of $$ that they judge awarded her ($50,000 a month) Really bitch?! Really?! I can't even be mad at Kelis though.

5)Alicia Keys/Swizz Beats/Mashonda-Finding out that my girl A. Keys had been sleeping with Swizz Beats (a married man) for almost 2 years now almost broke my heart. *side eye* so much for 'A Woman's Worth' huh Alicia?

6) Serena and her rant at the tennis tournament---still not 100% sure on what happened but it became pretty big news and her fine wasn't a joke so there ya go.

7)50 cent & Rick Ross/Beanie Segel & Jay-Z----okay people it's 2009 not 1996. Rap beef, especially WACK rap beef is beyond played out. Honestly didn't all yall negroes learn from watching Biggie and Pac lose their lives? *smdh*

8)Shaq & his wife/Gilbert Arenas & his fiancee----*sigh* MEN! If you're going to cheat, be smart about it. That means no emails and erase all text messages after the conversation is over with. Damnit I hope Shaq's wife takes that ass to the cleaner's cause this is NOT his 1st time and as for Gilbert Arenas' fiancee...kick that groupie heiffa to the corner cause like ms. Sasha Fierce says "don't ever for a second get to thinking, your irreplaceable!"

9)Tiger Woods and his newly exposed cheating a**!!!----What I said above goes for this scenario too. CHEAT SMART OR DON'T CHEAT AT ALL!! and my sidelines ladies out there....if you're gonna let yourself be put in that role, then damnit PLAY. THAT. DAMN. POSITION. You knew who and what you were to him going into that ish.

10)The Salahi couple from D.C. crashing President Obama's 1st dinner-- all I have to say about that mess is: they're asses deserve to be in jail or at least fined outta this world!! You canNOT attend any function in which the President is in attendance without an invitation. and the fact that they still see nothing wrong with what they did....yeah I'm all for locking their asses up.

and least but damn sure not least....

11) Pleasure P is a convicted child molester----Say who?!! Say what?!! I didn't believe it at 1st myself but it's not looking to good for my boy. If this is true then I'm done supporting him. I have strong, personal issues when it comes to child molesters and I can't knowingly support someone that I know touched a child that way. Peep the whole story over at my girl Miss Jia's website here.

Worlds Aids Day

"Today more people than ever before are living with HIV and each year, new infections occur."--WorldAidsDay.org

Every year on December 1st, the entire world dedicates this day to helping everyone understand HIV/AIDS and to give us ways to stay safe.

What is HIV?
---A virus that attacks the body's immune system.

Are HIV & AIDS the same?
---No. When someone is described as living with HIV, they have the HIV virus in their body. A person is consdered to have developed AIDS when the immune system is so weak it can no longer fight off a range of diseases which it would normally cope.

How is HIV passed on?
----infected blood, semen, vaginal fluids or breast milk.
Sex without a condom with someone who has HIV

Sharing infected needles, syringes or other injecting drug equpiment

From an HIV-positive mother to her child during pregnancy, childbirth or breastfeeding.

People living with HIV
--More than 85,000 people are living with HIV in the UK

--Over a quarter of people with HIV in the UK are undiagnosed

--About 2/3 of people living with HIV are men and a 1/3 are women

--Over 1/2 of all people living with HIV are between 30-44 but there are numbers of younger and older people living with HIV.

New HIV cases in 2008
--7,298 new diagnoses

--The two groups most affected are gay and bisexual men and African heterosexuals. 3/4 of people diagnosed were among these 2 groups.

--2,760 new diagnoses among men who have sex with men

--2,790 new diagnoses among people from black & minority ethnice communities.

People living with HIV
--33.4 million people are living with HIV worldwide

--31.3 million adults

--15.7 million women

--2.1 million children under 15

New HIV cases in 2008
--2.7 million people

--2.3 million adults

--430,000 children under 15

HIV-related deaths in 2008
--2 million total deaths

After reading all of that, can anyone truly say that taking chances with unprotected sex is really worth their lives? Do YOU want to become another statistic? If the answer to those two questions are no, then do the smart and safe thing and make sure that you practice safe sex. You can never tell who may or may not have HIV/AIDS nowadays. Treat your lives like the precious jewels they are and cherish them please! GET TESTED AND STAY SAFE!!

Shout Out to Chris Brown

I ♥ C.B. but damnit!! I just fell in deeper in love with him just because of this!!

We all know that C.B. is a HUGE Michael Jackson fan so recently at one of his concerts, he took the time out to pay tribute to The King of Pop in his own way and KILLED IT!

For the love of Ray J; wk-3

Goodbye to Lava and Just Right!!!!

Today the girls had to come up with a dance routine to perform for Ray and his friends.

Is it any surprise to anyone that one of the girls "smashed the homie?"

*sigh* and the culprit is....Luscious.

Lava proved to us all that she is indeed crazy as hell and needs psychiatric help...or just a straight jacket.

Ray and Just Right weren't compatible so he sent her packing.

All I can say is that I'm happy he kept Lucious because she seems cool and honestly, someone who made a sex tape w/ Kim K. and dated Whitney Houston while she was on drugs...can't really get upset about what someone else has done in their past.

Happy Anniversary Sesame Street!

We all grew up watching Big Bird, Elmo, Grouch and all the others as they had their adventures on Sesame Street. We all learned things from them and had plenty of laughs along the way. Well...everyone's favorite show is now 40 years old and here are a few of my fav. clips from over the years. Enjoy!!

There are so many more but these are the ones that just stick in my mind! I love those Sesame Street characters! XOXOXO

For the Love of Ray J;wk. 2

This was another week of trumfoolery(c) in the world of reality dating lol. The ladies challenge this week was to come up with a script for themselves and Ray to act out.

I must admit there were some good one BUT there were some horribly bad ones (ie Extra! lol.) At the end the three winners he chose were: Lava, Jaguar and Luscious. During their date, I realized that Luscious is Nasty, just like Destiny's Child described in their song. I'm sorry but on a first date, you shouldn't have your tongue down someone;s throat *shrugs* sorry but that's just me ya know?

At elimination, after sending Gifts home, it came down to Trouble and Extra. Sadly, he didn't do the smart thing and send both of they nut asses home....at the end he chose Extra and Trouble was sent home.

Oh Joy...Hurricane Ida

Just when I thought we were going to have a tropical storm/hurricane free season this year, one comes along and says "Ha!". Hurricane Ida isn't directly headed towards New Orleans but the very fact that she's in the Gulf is enough to make us all hold our breaths.
I love my city but from June 1st to November 30th...I HATE LIVING HERE! Oh my goodness, it's always a constant issue with living here by the mouth of the Gulf and in a city that's already below sea-level.

Evacuations=headaches for students in New Orleans. We have to cancel classes and God forbid if the hurricane becomes serious, ie Katrina. They close schools and tell us to check online for our assignments. Once Katrina hit and 80% of the city was underneath water, parents had to find temporary schools for their kids, college students had to transfer to another university or take the risk of missing out on a semester. Beginning to see why I hate these months?

I'm going to be hoping that this time...we won't have to leave and that we can deal with this one at home, as we've done plenty of other times.

Tragedy at Fort Hood

At this time I want to send my prayers and well-wishes to all of the soldiers at Fort Hood that lost their lives or were wounded today.

Before people begin to throw stones, everyone has to realize that PDST is a very true thing that soldiers deal with after leaving Iraq/Afghanistan. I truly don't know what to say about this subject right now except that I hope the military does what ever it can to ensure the soldiers can cope with this situation.

As a military brat (mother IS a member of the few, the proud... the Marines!!), I feel this tragedy as a personal blow...

RIP Soldiers
hopefully you're deaths won't be in vein and thank you for your service to this country.

For the Love of Ray-J 2; wk 1

I knew VH1 was bringing this trumfoolery©B.Scott back but I'll be damned if this season isn't picking up right where the last one left off at. Ray-J, Lil B' and 19 more girls all trying to get their 15 minutes of fame.

The girls this season are:
Adorable (23)
Caliente (31)
Exotica (24)
Extra (21)
Flossy (21)
Gifts (22)
Heartbreaker (22)
Jaguar (23)
Just Right (32)
Lava (24)
Luscious (23)
Mz. Berry (32)
Paradeez (22)
Platinum (22)
Popper (25)
Trouble (22)
Diego (21)
Fettucini (22)
Tipsy (22)

Ray-J you have done it again (insert sarcasm here). I didn't think that after last season, it could get any worse but of course I've been managed to been proven wrong. I'm sorry but can someone explain to me why any woman in her right mind would go on a reality show to date a man who's only claim to fame is a)being Brandy's brother b)having made a sex tape with K. Kardashian and c) having dated Whitney Houston? Really now? Really? We all know they all only go on there so that whenever they get eliminated they can become "reality stars".

*Sigh* and *smdh* I guess for the sake of entertainment, I'll watch this season and see what the hell happens.

Resignation in Louisiana **Update**

We all recall hearing about the justice of the peace who refused to marry an interracial couple last month. If not --> here's the link <--.

Well...nola.com posted today that he has resigned his post. He submitted a one-page letter of resignation to the Louisiana Secretary of State.

All I can say to this is Thank God!!! I've been wondering ever since I heard about this nonsense what was going to happen to this fool and this is exactly what I was hoping for. When you are a civil servant that means you serve everyone and their race, sex, age does not matter.

Rampant Racism in New Orleans pt. 2

Here we go:
My wonderful, always colorful opinion on Ed Blakely's comments.

--------------------

  1. While it is true that a FEW people in this city expected for all of the work to be done for them, the majority of the city acknowledge the fact that if we want our city bigger & better than it was before Katrina, most of the labor would have to come from natives. Some expected a hand-out and when they didn't receive it they gave up but that does NOT include the city as a whole. Neighborhoods as a whole are working tirelessly to restore the areas they live in.

  2. Buffons....that is a very harsh word. I concede that there ARE some ignorant people that live in this city. People who have no desire to further their education, living conditions and life in general but once again I say: that doesn't mean EVERYONE here is like that and for him to make that generalized statement makes him seem to be a damn "buffon".

  3. Racism is very much at work in New Orleans and even though it disgusts me to say that, it is very much so the truth. Everyday cases of whites vs. blacks, whites vs. lations, asians vs. blacks and etc etc are evident. We all need to work together to end the intolerance that's seperating us so I have a question: what's more important: stating that everyone is a racist or doing something to end the shit?....exactly!

  4. Race riot.....*smdh* I hate to tell you this Ed buddy old pal but...you're late with that announcement. Race riots have been going on down here for years and years. Blacks killing blacks, blacks killing whites, whites killing blacks, whites killing whites and every other race that there is. Stop trying to predict the future and worry about fixing the here and now.

  5. I can't really comment on this one because I've never had the pleasure (insert sarcasm)  of living in either Cleveland or California or any place that he's worked. I can say that compared to Mississippi, which I'm very much familiar with, yes the bureaucracy in New Orleans isn't as sophisticated as it could be. Instead of blasting it, why not HELP?

  6. The education system before Hurricane Katrina was filled with corruption and people who, for the majority, did not care about the students and if they learned or not. So yes, there have been numerous cases of people moving from grade to grade without getting the help that they need. Now that they are taking those steps to better themselves: it's to be taken as a negative? They're doing more than others and that's TRYING.

  7. I am so tired of hearing that New Orleans won't around in another 100 years! "Too far below sea-level", "Not enough storm surge protection" and such and such. To all of those people I only have a few words to say: SHUT THE HELL UP!! Honestly, I've always said this and it may sound mean but f**k it this is my blog: if you can bring your a** down here for Mardi Gras, to party on Canal and Bourbon,Voodoo Fest, Essence, Jazz Fest and all of the other things that go on in this city then you have a vested interest in New Orleans as much as the residents do. If you have such a love for this city why not help to ensure that in another 100 years, New Orleans will still be here for you to come and party in?

**Disclaimer** All statements and opinions stated in this post above is the writer's personal feelings. If you a) don't agree with anything I said or b) feel as if I'm being prejudiced then you can feel free to leave.

Rampant Racism in New Orleans pt. 1

*raises hands*
Teacher: yes Jacquite?
Me: I was wondering: what year is it?
Teacher: Excuse me?
Me: What year is it?
Teacher: 2009, why?
Me: I ask because after Ed Blakely's interview I feel as if we're back in the 1900's with the way he described our situation here in New Orleans.
--------------------------------
Allow me to explain that whole scenario that I just played out to you all.

Ed Blakely, who was in charge of heading the recovery here in New Orleans recently did an interview with CalTV, the University of California-Berkeley's online television show and during that time he basically threw New Orleans and every citizen that lives here under the bus.

I'll post the links here and here for you guys if you want to watch it but I'll just give a quick run-down.

He states that:

  1. We never planned on doing anything w/ the rebuilding our selves. That we expected outsiders to come in and do all the work themselves.

  2. Most people in this city are "buffons".

  3. That everyone is a racist

  4. That the tensions between the races down here is so bad that unless the next mayor is extremely clever, a race riot WILL happen.

  5. The bureaucracy in New Orleans is nowhere near as sophisticated as it is in Oakland and other cities in which he's worked.

  6. 30% of city employees are taking basic literacy courses. and last but not least and my favorite out of this list (insert sarcasm)

  7. New Orleans isn't likely to be around for another 100 years. He claims the Mississippi River and another storm will conspire to "wipe New Orleans off the map."

**Giving my thoughts and all that good stuff in next post so stay tuned**

Chrianna....The Saga

*sigh* it seems our boy Chris Breezy just can't let go of Ri-Ri. He recently took to twitter (@MechanicalDummy is his twit page) and linked a video of him and Ri-Ri during happier times...it's obvious to all of us that these two still have feelings for each other and I truly believe that no matter what anyone tells them or how we feel: they WILL end up back together.
I stated this when the "incident" happened and I will repeat it now: I will NEVER condone a man doing to a woman what was done to Rihanna but none of us know exactly what happened that night and have no clue what all took place in that car to make the situation escalate to that level. I do feel that it's best that they take time apart from each other to get their lives together and heal because dosmetic abuse is never easy but doing it in the public eye...I cannot begin to imagine how much worse that made it.

Chris needs to deal with his issues because growing up in a household of domestic abuse is a horrible thing. His counseling classes that he is hopefully attending needs to be his first priority along with his music. I've heard some people say that Rihanna needs to speak out about what happened to her. To those people I say: no she does not. Everyone deals with things in their own way and speaking out may not be the right course for her right now. Stop judging her for not following the path that YOU believe is right and let her live her life.

I'll close this with saying that no matter what these two decide: get back together, remain friends or go their seperate ways, they need to make that choice for themselves and in their best interests. Because no matter how much you love someone, we all deserve to be in a healthy, happy relationship with no fear of having our partner put their hands on us in anger.
